The Healing Arts & Wellness Internship Program

     What is the Healing Arts & Wellness Internship Program?

​

      This is an 8-month personal & professional development program intended to introduce each individual to a variety of alternative and holistic healing modalities that can be applied to personal growth and development. The program explores the foundations and applications of 6 healing modalities: mindfulness practices, sound therapy, yoga philosophy and practice, nutritional therapy, neurofeedback and brain chemistry, and motivation activation. Each modality is covered extensively as a weekend module, once a month over the course of 8 months.

    In addition to the healing arts training, each wellness intern obtains additional wellness business training which includes topics on client

engagement, social media and print marketing, hosting events, classes, and workshops, publication and web writing, professional code of ethics training, and individual and group mentoring.

 

     The internship program is intended to help individuals learn about alternative healing modalities while working in a small team setting, developing small business skills, and assisting in educating the local community about Mindful Ways to Wellness services. Please note this is NOT a paid position, there are no employment guarantees after the completion of the program, and this program does NOT certify, license, or provide any formal education in any specific field. 

  What are the learning outcomes and benefits of this program?

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

​

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the history and uses of mindfulness as it is applied to the healing arts and self-care.

  2. Apply mindfulness in a variety of contexts including meditation, yoga, interpersonal relationships, and eating.

  3. Demonstrate an understanding of sound therapy as it applies to the energy centers, body systems, and how vibrational frequencies induce a healing state.

  4. Demonstrate an understanding of yoga history, philosophy-the 8 limbs of yoga, and yoga movement and practice.

  5. Apply yoga movement and the ancient wisdom of yoga to personal self-care.

  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the stress response cycle, brain chemistry, its functions and how to change it through neurofeedback, meditation, and music.

  7. Understand the functions of nutritional therapy as it pertains to Anatomy and Physiology, macronutrients and how they function in the body, macronutrients and food sources, treating common health conditions with diet, shopping, storing, and cooking healthy foods and mindful eating.

  8. Demonstrate an understanding of motivational theories, how to activate it, how to overcome low motivation through mindfulness.

  9. Apply motivational interviewing with others.

  10. Demonstrate an understanding of social media, print and multi-media marketing in a small wellness business.

  11. Demonstrate an understanding of how to effectively engage clients and students through positive interactions, classes, and presentations.

  12. Demonstrate an understanding of marketing on a shoe-string budget and professional representation, for small business growth.

  13. Develop an understanding of the importance of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for websites and blog writing and ways to improve copy effectiveness.

  14. Demonstrate an understanding of how to develop effective, engaging, and ethical programs and services.

  15. Apply skills learned in the program for future personal growth and development.

Upon successful completion interns will obtain:

  1. A certificate of completion  "84 training hours in the field of Holistic Health and Wellness"

  2. Valuable hands-on training and experience in the field of holistic health and wellness

  3. A letter of recommendation

  4. Further instruction on continuing education in the 7 modalities

  5. Eligibility to obtain Continuing Education Units (if applicable)

Internship Duties:                                   

 

You will assist with a variety of activities, some of which may be:

o   Shaping our brand identity through our social media

o   Blog and copywriting if appropriate

o   Creating print materials, flyers, stock images, etc.

o   Creating engaging events on- and offsite to increase client engagement and company exposure

o   Participate in or create workshops and classes based on skills learned and possessed

o   Participate in free clinics, networking, and business development if appropriate

o   Disseminate marketing information on various media platforms, events, and venues

o   Aid with the business and economics side of the company if appropriate.

 

  Who can apply for an internship position?

​

     Anyone who is interested in personal growth and expanding their knowledge about the healing arts and holistic wellness, while applying their training skills to the promotion, community education, and expansion of services at Mindful Ways to Wellness. Applicants should be dedicated to their own personal growth and well-being, they must have weekly availability to receive training and perform intern duties (8-10 hours a week, on average), and they must possess the ability to maintain professionalism, integrity, and a positive attitude.

The following individuals are encouraged to apply:

​

  • Mental Health Counselors/Professionals (interns or licensed, social workers, case managers, behavior techs)

  • Professionals in the medical field 

  • Holistic health and wellness practitioners 

  • Mature college students who are majoring in psychology, health and wellness, alternative medicine, biology, pre-med, etc.

  • Working adults interested in the field of health and wellness.

  • Educators/Teachers

  • Yoga instructors

  • Individuals with strong written and oral communication skills (writers, bloggers, public relations, marketing)

  • Individuals with graphic design, video production, and multimedia skills.

  • Retired individuals interested in the field of health and wellness.

The consideration of applicants will be based on the applicant's skillset, availability, goals, and the available openings in the program. 

​

  Program expectations:

​

     Please note that is an intensive internship/training program designed to promote personal growth and development. Wellness interns will receive monthly training and perform weekly duties. Regular attendance and completion of the program are expected.

​

Program breakdown over an 8-month period:

Program Dates:

​

    The internship program will start on August 29th, 2020 and will end on May 2nd, 2021. 

All trainings and wellness modules will be held on the following weekends over the course of 8 months, with a 3-week break in December. Please plan on attending all trainings.

​

  • August 29th and 30th 9-am-5pm (15 hrs of training)

  • September 19th and 20th 9am-5pm (15 hrs of training)

  • October 17th and 18th 9am-5pm (15 hrs of training)

  • November 14th and 15th 9am-5pm (15 hrs of training)

  • January 9th and 10th 9am-5pm (15 hrs of training)

  • February 6th and 7th 9am-5pm (15 hrs of training)

  • March 6th and 7th 9am-5pm (15 hrs of training)

  • April 10th and 11th 9am-5pm (15 hrs of training)

Please note that in addition to the training weekends you will be contributing 8-10 hours a week to the center, performing various on-site and off-site tasks. 

​

Total Training Program & Internship Hours: approximately 440 hours

​​

  • Total of 120 training hours in various healing arts modalities and wellness business development skills (8 modules = 15 hours per module per month). 

  • Total of 256-320 Internship work/ skill application hours over a 32 week span (about 8-10 hrs a week)
